La via del Ceneri (old)

Branding

La via del Ceneri

On the occasion of Ceneri 2020 and the opening of the Monte Ceneri Base Tunnel within AlpTransit, the Municipality of Cadenazzo—supported by federal, cantonal and local partners—chose to create a hiking tourist itinerary connecting Cadenazzo railway station with the Monte Ceneri pass.
The project included recovering part of the ancient Via Francesca, linking it with other historical routes, and promoting the Terre del Ceneri together with the municipalities of Gambarogno and Monteceneri.

Project

We designed effective, innovative signage along the route. Panels were installed near points of interest, and a “story gallery” dedicated to the history of means of transport was also created.
We organised events with the local population to accompany and promote the project, managed media communication, created a dedicated website, and produced a new map of the Terre del Ceneri.

Wordplay

A thematic hiking itinerary that enriches the Terre del Ceneri area.

Itinerary

Four types of panels were produced:

  1. Tourist-informational panels with info on each point of interest, reconstructing stories and customs of the people of Ceneri.

  2. Educational panels with bespoke illustrations, proposing a place-based experience that can be repeated on site, at home, or in the classroom.

  3. Panels on the evolution of transport from 1750 to the 21st century.

  4. Panels on socio-historical and economic evolution from 1750 to the 21st century (world, Switzerland and Ticino).
All panels are in Italian, with QR codes for multilingual translations. A new map was created to bring together the main Terre del Ceneri routes and their points of interest.

Website

The web presence is split into two sites and republishes the panels’ content along the itineraries with multilingual translation. It also enhances the territory with images shot by Nicola Demaldi, AlpTransit’s official photographer, in a reportage across the Terre del Ceneri.
